Singing the Alleluia After the Proclaiming of the Gospel?

Question

Question

In some churches, and now my own, they are signing the "alleluia" again after the reading of the Gospel. Is this allowed?

--Gaff in Gettysburg

Answer

Answer

There is nothing in the liturgical books that says to do this practice. There is also nothing that forbids it. We usually only do liturgical practices that are written in the liturgical books, in this instance, the GeneralInstruction of the Roman Missal or the Lectionary for Mass. Theresponse to the Gospel, which is sung in most cultures, is "Praise to you LordJesus Christ."
