Ascension Sunday?

Question

Question

I understand that on the East Coast of the US, we are the only ones who still celebrate the Ascension on a Thursday. Which places celebrate it on a Thursday? Isn't this wrong for it to be on a Sunday, since the bible says something quite clearly

Answer

Answer

The Bible gives different interpretations when the Ascension of the Lord (the actual name of the solemnity) happened, depending on the book of the Bible. Even in the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostle (author believed to be the same), there are two.

According to the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops approved 2006 liturgical calendar, the provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, & Nebraska will celebrate Ascension on Thursday, May 25 (that's the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, & Nebraska).
